Our penultimate post of alphabetical soft furnishings covers Q – T and while you may it thinking about throws and quilts in the Summer, it’s always a wise move to make sure that you have enough so that you’re not left in the cold when the evening and night time temperatures drop.

Interior Design

Q = Quilted bedspreads:
Quilted bedspreads have been used as the final covering for a bed for many centuries. The original quilts were made up of three layers – the first layer was woven, the middle layer was the wadding and the third layer was also woven cloth. The ‘sandwich’ of wadding made quilts warm as the wadding provided an insulation. Quilting, the art of making quilts, has a long history and were often made to give as gifts for a wedding, birth or a loved one leaving home. These decorative quilts were also handed down through the generations and have family histories attached to them. Today the art of quilting still exists, but you can also buy machine produced quilts, enabling you to get the look and benefit from the warmth without the hard work.

R = Rugs, Roman & Roller blinds:
Rugs have also been used for centuries, and are as popular today due to many homes choosing not to have fitted carpets. Buying rugs direct from online retailers is a great way to find a colour, design, pattern and size to suit your rooms.

Roman blinds are yet another soft furnishing which has been used for centuries. Today you have the choice of making your own by selecting material from a fabric warehouse, buying ready made or made to measure. Roller blinds are an ideal window dressing which can be used on its own or in combination with curtains. Blackout roller blinds suit modern living as they block out unwanted light pollution as well as some also providing a thermal layer which helps to keep heat inside during the colder months and helps to reduce heat build-up during the Summer.

S = Super king bedding:
You don’t have to be a large person to reap the benefits of a super size bed. These modern beds provide ample room so that you and your partner can sleep comfortably. You’ll need super king bedding and super king size duvet covers, but they can easily be found online.

T = Throws:
Throws are another soft furnishing item which come in and out of fashion, currently they are in fashion and no home should be seen without at least one throw on a sofa or chair!
