Interior Design Ideas for Kitchens: Classical Country

The kitchen could be considered as the heart of the home, a place where people congregate to cook, eat and discuss the details of the day. If you are looking to give your kitchen a new look while still keeping it functional, a country-style kitchen could be just what you are looking for. Homely, comforting and forever stylish, the country look has been a popular choice among home owners for years.

Achieving this look doesn’t have to cost a fortune either, simply coordinating the right colour scheme with the right accessories and furnishings can achieve this classic look. Possible country colour schemes include yellows, beige and an assortment of light browns. This will make your kitchen look warm, which is an important aspect of a country-style kitchen.

If you are completely refurbishing your kitchen, you should choose large, well-proportioned timber cupboards and drawers. Light and dark pine counter tops will coordinate well, although you may want to avoid using wood that is too dark. Tile splash backs in a complimentary colour will also help bring the country look together, if your kitchen is a busy one you will find them a functional addition too. When it comes to this type of kitchen, the ‘less is more’ rule does not apply.

A country kitchen encompasses everything good about cooking. A pan rack, a wooden or steel rack that you hang from the ceiling, is an ideal place to store all different types of pans and utensils. As well as an effective storage solution, it achieves the look you want brilliantly.

Open shelves on the walls will provide storage for everyday items, as well as a place to display your favourite pieces. Jars, bottles and tin containers will look great on these shelves, as well as help to tie the look together. You will also want to make the most of your kitchen window space and encourage light to pour in to the room. Wooden blinds in a white or alternative light colour will allow light to come in, without compromising privacy. A pair of gingham-patterned kitchen curtains will enhance the country look.

Keep light fittings basic, you don’t want anything too flashy. Consider using a wooden chandelier with four lights, as this will match your cabinets and décor. A solid wooden floor, in a dark colour, with cheap rugs in complimentary colours will be the stylish finishing touch to your classic country kitchen.
