Kitchens are returning to the ‘olden days’ of being the hub of the home, with an informal table for eating or stools along the back of island units. Maximising space is also high on this year’s kitchen trends as we see the use of shelving replace the more traditional wall cupboards.
Colours Inspired by Nature:
Lime green may be a little intense for your taste, however, this year kitchens are being lifted with pop of bright colours and the use of reflective surfaces.
Patterns and Prints:
There isn’t too much pattern being advocated in kitchen designs, yet bright, patterned kitchen blinds are a great way to pep up the look of a kitchen without having to undertake complete re-decoration. You could also make geometric patterns with splash-back tiles or by grounding your interior design style with patterned kitchen rugs.
Faux Bois:
Laminate or plastic table and chairs is an ideal way to introduce the faux bois concept into your kitchen. If you don’t have the spare cash for a granite or marble worktop (and let’s be honest not many of us can!) then worktops with faux marble, wood grain or granite work equally as well and are more friendly on your pocket.
Up-cycle:
Rather than replace out-dated splash-back tiles you could paint them in a new and exciting colour – be sure to use paint designed for such a job otherwise standard paint will begin to flake away in a short period of time. Making you own kitchen blinds from fabric remnants is a great way to up-cycle, to add balance you could also make cheap cushions for informal seating in the same fabric.
Energy Efficiency:
Use a thermal lining on blinds and curtains to help conserve heat. Use water wisely along with reducing your energy usage, whether it’s gas or electricity, by choosing A grade appliances.
Flowing Water:
Like the bathroom the kitchen already encompasses this trend in many ways, however, economising with your water consumption is the real name of the game.
Get the Style:
The style of your home should be emulated in the kitchen. Bold, modern colours may not be your style, however, you can still up-date your kitchen by clearing work-surfaces and keeping work-tops clutter free. Bring a family friendly ambience into your kitchen by making space for stools or chairs to enable people to chat while the chef creates home-made mouthwatering delights!
