The weather is getting really cold outside now, but that hasn’t stopped the unstoppable colour trend grey – you would think we would be choosing any other colour to decorate with, that doesn’t remind us of the ever-imposing grey skies!
That being said, grey is rather beautiful isn’t it? I for one have been all for grey this year and if truth be told – it doesn’t have to be cold or even dull. Depending on the shade you use and how you use it – grey can be just as warm and inspiring as any other hue. Furthermore – is grey really just an excuse to bring in other colours? As it seems to compliment the full spectrum. We will be sharing with you lots of advice, tips and ideas on decorating with grey – for every room in the house! Starting with kitchens…now how can we use grey here?
· With grey being the new neutral, you will be interested about using it in contemporary kitchen designs; we were, which is why we have an idea for you. In a kitchen or kitchen-diner, we use a charcoal grey on the walls throughout. It works because it is paired with lots of white and touches of green.
There is what we like to call a ‘vintage garden’ look to the dining area with a wrought iron table and glass top, an open shelf with matching wrought iron brackets and vintage kitchen pieces, rustic pots with green house plants decorating the table and vintage garden furniture given a fresh lick of white paint (now you know!) Not forgetting the kitchen itself which has classic white cabinetry and white Venetian blinds, a little bit country but ultimately contemporary looking against the trendy grey wall paint.
· For a galley kitchen, we bring elegance that is matched with practicality for a modern kitchen design. We don’t know what layout you have to work with, but if you have a door leading out to the garden it would be a bonus. This look would be excellent come summer when you look down through your galley kitchen and see the vibrancy of the outdoor plants and grass. This view that you have should become a part of your inspiration – for choosing accent colours at least. Build up a few gorgeous accessories that pop with the same colours seen in the background – coloured vases, cheap roller blinds, wall clock, back-splash and even a bowel of fruits bring the outdoors in.
Our grey comes in with kitchen units in a light shade – it does wonders for opening up a narrow galley kitchen and enhancing light. A final touch would be to use rag style rugs to spread out the accent colours more.
