Interior design trends are as fast moving as fashion trends. One day the must have design is the ideal and perfect choice and yet before the paint has had time to dry that particular style is no longer in-trend! So when do people stand in relation to opting for a design style which will remain in-vogue for at least a year?
* This year the hottest interior design themes are the revival of wallpaper, mosaic tiling in bathrooms, colour in your home and shabby chic interiors. Along with the revival of home crafts such as patchwork, knitted cushion covers and home made soft furnishings which save you money and incorporate re-cycling.
* Things which are no longer hot include beige and any colour which resembles taupe or ecru, anything nickel plated and minimalism. If you have any of these it’s time for a change!
* The hottest colours for autumn and winter are sunset reds, moss green, sherbet colours and pastels, which include fondant fancy pink, cream and lilac.
In the kitchen rich colours which are warming and inviting, without being garish and neon bright are a great way to bring life to the hub of your home. If you want to go vintage giving a lick of paint to dressers, chairs and tables is a cost effective way of sprucing up the room. Look for floral prints for chairs and go dotty and spotty with curtains and table cloths. Mix and match these, for example pale blue with cream spots for curtains with pink spots on a cream background for the table cloth.
If you don’t want curtains in your kitchen look for the same themes in modern roller blinds. Roman blinds will look equally as attractive and with a DIY Roman blind kit you can opt for one of the fabrics used on the table cloth or chair seat to give a coordinated chic look.
Extra wide curtains are ideal for patio doors
In the lounge you can also create the vintage look by having gorgeous floral fabric which looks stunning if you have a bay window or need extra wide curtains to draw across patio doors as the evenings draw in and a nip is felt in the air! You can look for spotty and striped fabrics to make cushion covers to coordinate with the curtains, or alternatives such as ready made curtains with a vintage theme which also have matching cushions is a great way to get the look without having to spend hours at the sewing machine, that’s assuming you have a sewing machine or the time to make your own curtains and soft furnishings.
Stow away anything nickel coloured and opt for rich metallic colours such as gold or sliver which will mean your home will be ready just in time to welcome your Christmas guests!
